Depravity

-----

It's funny how so many movies and books portray the end of a civilization through any means imaginable.
It's meant to depict an era of unrest, rebellion, survival and perseverance through those trials.
A dog-eat-dog world, a survival of the strongest (both mentally and physically).

What is it about the human psyche that makes us want to survive?
Why do we have such strong convictions of wanting to live on even when everything seems hopelessly bleak?

I would like to say it's the fear of the unknown, that there may be no afterlife, no heaven or hell and dead is dead. Eternal sleep without consciousness and that minimal brain and heart function.
But. That would be like saying you fear everything in life as well.

To fear the unknown is to fear living, fear of taking chances.
Yet. So many do not fear living a mundane life, routine, constant tricks our minds play to makes us think we are alright every day.
We rarely think that at any moment we could enter the great unknown, death.

To walk out of your house, get in your vehicle, drive to work and put in six to eight plus hours to get in our vehicles once again, drive home.
To think of this as anything but safe, secure, the best way of living, rarely crosses our minds.
I mean. My God. When did we make this great switch to thinking we needed to rely on business and corporations to survive?
When we got lazy, when we thought it would give us more time for ourselves, while also being a secure living environment.

Dependency of others for survival has always been our greatest strength and weakness.

There are, I'm sure, others that think differently, outside-the-box.
Where we draw the line in the sand is, a majority, go along with the mundane.
It is not normal for one to cut their own path through the woods, to steer the boat into the storm.
Our greatest weakness is the herd-mentality, to bray up with the rest of the sheeple, in the hopes that we too are not deemed outcasts by our own cast.

What if such a thing, as so many of them there are, is in fact a mental illness of itself?
To follow so blindly only means to not think for yourself, to not want to feel rejection and be alone.

Is ignorance truly blissful?

However, I do believe; There are those that follow simply because of the isolation or rejection of others while maintaining their individuality, if not showing it physically, but within the confines of their own minds.

Solace within the mind is a prison of one's self-making.
